decadent, but vegan, chocolate chip cookies »

the things you find

A month later, we're in the final stages of moving (we hope), and, as such, have taken to following David's prescription, which is to "blitz" rooms. I'm not sure why he uses that word, but whatever, it seems to suit the action, since in blitzing we remove everything from a room. In doing so we find some interesting things, like a grocery recipt from July 13, 1989. Want to know what was purchased? Of course you do!

They say that the cost of food has gone up (you know, since 1989), but your parents paid $0.89 for a single tomato. Skim milk at $0.59, however...something tells me your parents were not shopping organically at the time.

Ha! Nope, they definitely weren't. Can you imagine milk that cheap? And good milk?!

Having spent the .89 let me just say that it is a "problem" of store semantics. Large tomato was the bin label, not an indication of how many one bought, there were also "salad toms" and "sml toms" at that time in that store. So the unit price was 89 cents per pound and we bought tomatoes in the amount of weight to equal 1.19. We most usually bought skim milk in 1 gal containers in those days, but sometimes got other "sizes" and "grades" if cooking something which we thought required non-skim milk.
